About Us

The Prestige is UC Merced’s official student-run newspaper, established in 2024 by a small group of ASUCM senators and dedicated volunteer executives.

The Prestige is named in homage to The Prodigy, the publication that came before us and whose ideas many of our bylaws are based on. Following the shutdown of The Prodigy in 2015, UC Merced was left without a student-run publication for nearly a decade.

The Prestige boasts a suite of additional new bylaws designed to further protect the publication’s autonomy and provide fair and unbiased commentary. Our vision for The Prestige is to foster accountability between campus organizations and serve as a way for students to connect and stay informed with one another.

For the time being, The Prestige is an online-only publication. We hope to start printing paper copies soon!
